The Faculty of Built and Natural Environment (FBNE) is one of the two youngest of its kind in Koforidua Technical University (KTU). The Faculty has continually evolved over the years to respond to the needs of its professional areas, combining innovative thinking with new technologies and contemporary practice across all aspects of the design and construction of buildings, public spaces and cities. The Faculty prioritises research, and development of cutting-edge technologies, building designs and materials to advance the global quest to achieve sustainable development. We see it as our social responsibility to facilitate the design and build of sustainable and well-considered structures and spaces that reflect society’s aspirations.

Teaching, learning and research at FBNE are highly conditioned under strong social ethos, professional ethics and industrial standards to ensure that students are seamlessly assimilated into the job market. Our unique undergraduate and postgraduate course portfolio is forward-thinking and held in high regard by professionals. We work closely with the industry to ensure our courses are relevant and up to date, particularly on big topics like the environment and sustainability where the discipline can have a great impact. You will work on projects that focus on today’s challenges while looking forward to anticipating the needs of tomorrow.

All of our courses combine theory with practical application to ensure that you have the skills to apply your knowledge appropriately and creatively within the industry. All undergraduate courses carry both academic and professional accreditations from a range of bodies and placements. Thus, professional experience in the industry setting is a core part of the course structure of the Faculty. This gives you a competitive edge and sets you apart when it comes to future employment. A number of industrial stakeholders have had reasons to specifically request for graduates from the Faculty to execute particular job functions in their outfits due to the practical mode of course delivery. Further, course structure and delivery are partly based on industrial expertise gaps and recommendations from our engagement with the industry. As a result, courses under the Faculty are highly responsive to current and future industrial needs.

There is a real sense of community in our school and the relationship between staff and students is paramount. You are treated as individuals and we take the time to get to know you and have an ongoing dialogue. We give you the freedom to express yourself in an academically challenging environment, complemented by a collaborative approach where you can absorb from other students with all kinds of backgrounds at different levels of study. These factors allow you to realise your full potential and broaden your understanding of the roles, responsibilities and skills of other key professionals. We have created several platforms for staff-student engagements and interactions to learn, bond, and address the concerns each other. Accordingly, we pride ourselves that our course structure and mode of delivery are incomparable to any other Faculty of its kind in the West African sub-region.
